The above explanation sounds quite confusing, but I think that is what they are trying to say. You often have to know if the noun is male or female and the appropriate forms of the adjectives to describe them. It seems that learning other languages are quite difficult to learn if you don't start early in life. I tried to learn French after learning Spanish and couldn't keep them straight.
